Alternative Names: Jerdon's Chloropsis Distribution: Entire peninsular India from E Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, C Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, S W Bengal, all the way south till the southern tip including W Ghats, and E Ghats; locally in W and E coastal plains as well as Deccan. Distribution: W Ghats from Surat Dangs and sporadically in adjacent coastal plains as well as transition areas on the Deccan side, south till about Palakkad gap as well as SE and CE Ghats till about Godavari river. Chloropsis aurifrons insularis Whistler & Kinnear, 1932 [HB#1105] Original Description:Chloropsisaurifronsinsularis Whistler & Kinnear, 1932 Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society 35 (4) p.752 Taxonomy: A poorly distinguished subspecies; not always recognised as SW Ghats birds are rather intermediate in size compared to true insularis from Sri Lanka. Distribution: SW Ghats roughly south of Palakkad gap. Specimens: NHMUK, NHMO, TNHM Notes: Palakkad gap considered tentatively as the barrier between subspecies (Ali 1984, Birds of Kerala p. 303) though the species is also present locally in Palakkad gap and their subspecific status is unknown.
