Sri Lanka FrogmouthBatrachostomus moniliger Blyth, 1849 [HB#666] Original Description:Batrachostomusmoniliger Blyth, 1849 Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal 18 p.806 Taxonomy: Taxonomic status of subspecies roonwali Dutta 2009 from N Karnataka [=N Kanara] and Kodagu [=Coorg] not distinctive enough for subspecies status (Praveen et al. 2024, Records of the Zoological Survey of India 124 (1): 39). Sri Lankan population may qualify as a distinct subspecies; in which case the name roonwali would apply to the entire W Ghat population. Alternative Names: Ceylon Frogmouth Distribution: W Ghats from about Mumbai till the southern tip in Kanyakumari district but absent in the associated hills like Biligirirangans, Servarayan, and Sirumalai.
