      Notes: Possible migration to lowlands not worked out.

      Taxonomy: Intergrades with the nominate subspecies in Sikkim. This is the new name for kempi Baker 1913.
      Distribution: Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal, and all NE hill states.

      Taxonomy: Includes pectoralis Jerdon 1847 from Nilgiris.
      Distribution: E Rajasthan (Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur) through Mt. Abu, N and E Gujarat, entire C India including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and N and E Maharashtra, along the W Ghats from Surat Dangs till about Goa and N Karnataka; extending through the Deccan transition zone on the eastern slopes of CW Ghats till the base of Nilgiris; NW Telangana, NE Karnataka, CE Ghats of Andhra (south of Godavari river), SE Ghats of Andhra, and Tamil Nadu; sporadic south of the Nilgiris till about Palakkad gap.
