Population in Upper Noa-Dihing valley in SE Arunachal.was previously considered as Grey-bellied Wren Babbler S reptatus Bingham 1903 but now believed to be a new taxon (Praveen et al. 2022, IB 18 (4): 109). Only one specimen from India known (USNM #585851) of this population; the other purportedly in BNHS not locatable. E Ghats from N Odisha (Similipal) till NE Andhra, Chhattisgarh, locally in Telangana, and E Maharashtra. Type Specimen: NHMUK#1880.1.1.1934 (Syntype). Type Specimen: NHMUK#1910.5.11.145 (Holotype). Specimens: BNHS, NHMUK, AMNH, FMNH, MCZ, USNM, YPM, TNHM Notes: Both this and the nominate subspecies occur in the W Ghats in Karnataka, presumably also in Wayanad (Kerala), on either side and may be intergrading. Populations in Sirumalai and Alagarkoil are likely this subspecies as that is the nearest proximal population. Intergradation zone with the nominate subspecies, if exists, would be around Moyar gorge.

Type Specimen: NHMUK#1937.12.21.27 (Holotype). Specimens: BNHS, ZSI, NHMUK, FMNH, USNM Notes: Kalrayan and Kolli hills population not sampled taxonomically but geographically closer to this population than travancoreensis. Thoppur pass is likely to be limit for this population.

Reports from 'Aka' (Abor?) hills, Balipara Frontier Tract (Nameri region) and Mishmi hills (pre-1879), not evaluated here. However, it is present in S Tibet immediately north of Dibang valley.
