      Distribution: W Ghats south of SW Maharashtra till S Tamil Nadu; limited eastward extension towards the spur hills of Nilgiris and Palani hills.

      Distribution: Chota Nagpur plateau, NE Ghats, Satpuras, and possibly disjunctly in Surat Dangs south to about Mumbai.
      Type Specimen: FMNH#246484 (Holotype).
      Specimens: BNHS, ZSI, AMNH, FMNH, USNM
      Notes: The western and eastern population of this subspecies are not connected and may potentially represent independent lineages. Reports from CE Ghats (AR2001) not evaluated.

      Taxonomy: Includes hodgsoni Gould 1838, which is the name given to the Himalayan population. If that name were to be recognised, only the population in Mizoram and Tripura shall belong to the nominate subspecies.
      Distribution: Uttarakhand (historical), N Bihar, Sikkim, N Bengal, Assam, W Arunachal, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Cachar, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

    Endemic: Eastern Himalaya.
